The elective of GRIHA aimed to evaluate built forms on the basis of the few selected SVAGRIHA criterion in order to highlight the impact of surfaces, vegetation, fenestration design, thermal efficiency, utilization of resources and embodied energy on the built form. The exercise also signified the impact of climatic zones in the design of built form. This detailed understanding implied the significance of landscape, climate, etc. for the thermal comfort of the user. The analysis encourages designs to be sensitive of its impact on environment, available energy and resources. The process of the elective initiated with the architectural design of one of the given typologies such as a hotel, motel, hostel, etc. with the required program and functions. The design was then analyzed on the basis of five selected criteria proposed by the SVAGRIHA.
